The Perfect Vetkoek Dough

I finally got the vetkoek dough recipe to perfection! The art is in the sifting of the flour which gives it a more airy taste and is just perfect and crispy. It’s my own recipe, very simple and easy too.

In a mixing bowl sift 6 cups of flour and pinch of salt. Add in 160ml white sugar and 80ml of active yeast. Mix together till just mixed.

Now while mixing with a standed electric mixer, add in 125ml of canola oil that is mixed with 250ml lukewarm water. If the dough comes loose from the edges it is perfect. Do not over mix.

Take some canola oil and work the dough and fold it in to form a ball. Place back into the mixing bowl in the oven on 70 Degrees Celsius so that it rises for 30 minutes.

After rising take out the dough and put some canola oil on your hands and shape the dough into a bug circle.

Place on a baking tray and score into pizza sized triangles. Use a deep fryer on 180 Degrees Celsius.

Shape each piece of dough into an oval shape and place in the oil for 3-5 minutes till the cake tester comes out clean.

Serve with your choice of any filling. Yummy delicious and a winner!
