Crunchies is a well known and well loved South African treat. Me and my husband just love these! They are so full of flavour and also healthy! They get their name from the crunchy, chewy bites that they are.
Here is the recipe:
4 Cups of Flour
2 Cups of Coconut
4 Cups of Oats
2 Cups of Soft Brown sugar
500g Margarine or Butter
4T of Syrup
2tsp of Bicarb of Soda
Pinch of salt
2tsp of Cinnamon
Melt butter and syrup, then add the bicarb of soda. When the mixture forms a foam, add to rest of dry ingredients while mixing with an electric mixture.
Press into prepared baking trays
Bake at 180 Degrees Celsius for approximately 25 minutes or till golden brown.
Score into squares before going into oven, and cut into squares out of oven.
Bake longer if a crispier biscuit is preferred, and slightly shorter for a more chewy biscuit.
