Home-made custard is definitely much more delicious than the store bought ones. This custard was used in making German buttercream.
375ml Fresh Milk
10ml Vanilla Essence
150g White Sugar
2 Egg Yolks
On the stove heat up the milk on low heat till bubbling. Set aside to cool down completely.
Mix together the egg yolks, cornflour, sugar and vanilla essence.
Add the egg mixture to the cooled down milk while whisking.
Place back on the stove and let it simmer on low, medium heat.
Whisk consistently until the milk mixture thickens up.
Remove from the heat and use a spatula to spread it through a strainer, until smooth and not lumpy anymore. Place in a bowl and cover with cling wrap.
Place in the fridge to cooldown.
