This recipe happened by accident. I would call it a good accident, cause we made the most flavourful, delicious dumpling in one bite. I was trying to make a gluten free dumpling dough, and it completely flopped.
My husband told me about the already easy to use dumpling dough that is available in our supermarkets. He got some for me and I was so exited.
This dumplings goes best with a ginger, honey, spicy sauce as well as a sweet chilli sauce, and soy sauce if you prefer.
You can prepare this ahead of time and freeze it in ziplock bags and just steam and fry them like you need them. This beef filling is enough for about 85 dumplings so you can go ahead and stock up on your own home made dumplings, ain’t that clever.
For the Beef Filling you will need:
500g Stewing Beef in Cubes
1 Block of Stock Cube of your choice
1 – 2 Tablespoons of Butter
2 Tsp of Rosemary
125ml Tomato Purée
2 Tbs Brown Sugar
2 Tbs Worcestershire Sauce
Salt and Pepper to Taste
2 Cups of Bread Crumbs
Method for the beef filling:
In a food processor, make the beef cubes fine like mince. Add in the egg and incoporate with your hand. Melt the stock cube and butter in the microwave and add to the beef mixture. Mix the rest of the ingredients together and cover with cling wrap the bowl in which your filling is in. Place in the fridge for a few hours or overnight.
How to make the dumplings:
Take one circle sheet and place a dollop of filling in the middle. Using one mixed egg,spread the one side and fold over. Press the dough on the edges of the filling so that it seals. Now spread a little bit of egg on the egdes, not too much as it will get soggy and wet. Fold over on the opposite side where the egg is spread till you see tiny edges are formed. Do this with all the ready made dumpling dough circles until your filling is finished.
Take out only the amount you will need for one dinner dish and devide the rest into bags or 13 or however much you prefer. Place on a baking tray seperating them to not freeze over each other until frozen. Place into ziplock bags and use them when you need them.
This filling makes 85 dumplings. It’s great to stock up on dumplings. After you steamed your dumplings, flash fry till golden and brown, serve with soy sauce or a nice spicy sauce that will compliment your dish.
It took me almost 3 hours to fold all the dumplings but worth it in every sense as I will make dumplings from now on. Me and my husband couldn’t eat enough of them tbey were so delicious and yum.
