Hi, I’m Kristie Townsend,
a self taught homecook & baker, mom of 2, blogger, photographer & foodie. I love Baking & Decorating Cupcakes & Cakes. I love experimenting with Desserts and creating my own.
Welcome to my blog!
Thank you for joining me on this journey where we will both learn about all things cooking and baking, and everything in between. I grew up in Rustenburg in South-Africa. My parents thought that it was a great idea to take consumer studies in Grade 10 when I was 16 years old, to learn more about cooking and baking and to make food. It turned my world upside down, it changed everything as I found food one of my biggest passions. I love sharing food, sharing my baking and making people happy, passing on my knowledge to others.
After finishing high school, and my cooking and baking passions being in the beginner stages, I started my Bachelors of Education degree at UNISA. I shortly met my husband and together we would create the most delicious food and sharing amongst friends and family. We married and few years later, I got my degree in 2017 and then we immigrated to NZ in February of 2018.
This blog was launched 9 months later, as one of my teachers have encouraged me to start a blog on a platform and to share my recipes. After dealing with motherhood and coping alone with my husband and a new baby, it took it’s toll on my mental health and I decided to start my blog, in order to inspire other and to help in on my mental health journey and other mom’s. To also share my knowledge and skills and to also keep myself busy and to improve my english language skills and speaking skills. To give others a voice where they have no voice and to inspire others.
I’ve realised that we all have our own battles we go through. I can’t describe to you how liberating it is, it felt like I finally found my voice after all those years, struggling to be heard by others and seen and was even bullied online and then I just had enough and realised I have to do something for myself, something everyone can relate to and moms, women, men and people from all walks of life.
I have learned that kindness goes a long way, if God calls you to do something, you do it. I jumped in head first without realising that I now have an online platform. I know nothing about running a website not even about blogging, and now as I looked back, I am grateful for the audience I have reached and how far my blog have reached. I am humbled and have big dreams to hopefully sell my own cookbook someday.
I am a proud mom of 2, I love exploring New Zealand and the family oriented life that New Zealand have to offer. It takes a jump of faith, believing in your dreams and never giving up. From the small town girl in Rustenburg, who got frustrated from not finding the right recipes I want and all the ads, it was destined for me and somehow it happened at the right time.
I am still that small town girl, now living in New Zealand with my husband and two kids, enjoying life and cooking and baking and sharing all the raw emotions what comes with motherhood, parenthood and everything in between. If I can inspire just one person, then my work is done. I believe everything happens for a reason and that nothing is a coincidence. May you enjoy cooking, baking and reading with me and my husband!
